6 A's 1 B. Thats right.

Thursday, November 20, 2008

I enrolled for the spring. I'm taking 9 hours at JCCC, History of Africa, Eastern Civilization, and History of the Middle East. At UMKC I'm taking 12 hours, History of Black Baseball in American Culture (it meets at the museum!), Women in Ancient Society, and 2 Ed classes.

We may move out of our house. They were renovating it this summer before we moved in and were planning on finishing thigns in the first 2 weeks of our living there. Four months later and nothings been done and now there's mold. We may lose our deposit though. I'll be glad to have a chance to move closer to the city, the problem is that I don't want to sign a 12 month lease because, while I knew where I'd be 12 months after we signed this one, where I'll be 12 months from now largely depends on whether or not UMKC accepts me into the final year of the Ed program. If so, I'll still be in KC, if not, I'll have a summer and a semester to kill and I think I'd like to travel or atleast get a job in another city.

This is my life right now. I'm also looking for a 10-15 hour/week job. Oh and I'm probably doing another road trip to the Northeast. This one will be longer and end in Time Square for the New Year.

Karl Rove: McCain's Ads Have Gone Too Far

When Karl Rove is saying your political ads have gone too far, you know you must be doing something dishonest.

The former Bush chief strategist, appearing on Fox News Sunday, said that John McCain had stretched the truth in his recent round of attacks against Barack Obama, in the process opening up the Arizonan to a round of effective counter-attacks.

"McCain has gone in his ads one step too far, and sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the 100-percent-truth test," said Rove. "Both campaigns ought to be careful about... there ought to be an adult who says: 'Do we really need to go that far in this ad? Don't we make our point and get broader acceptance and deny the opposition an opportunity to attack us if we don't include that one little last tweak in the ad?'"

Watch:

McCain has received a heaping dose of criticism late this week for launching a series of advertisements that could be categorized as dishonest if not downright lies. The Obama camp, in a memo to reporters Sunday morning -- entitled a "Dishonorable, Dishonest Campaign" -- highlighted a number of these pieces. Joe Klein, of Time magazine called one spot the "sleaziest" he had ever seen. Paul Krugman of the New York Times, defined the episode as a "blizzard of lies." On Sunday, the St. Petersburg Times, ran an editorial entitled: "Campaign Of Lies Disgraces McCain," while the Chicago Tribune's Steve Chapman, wrote that "to McCain the truth is expendable."

That Rove would acknowledge truth in these complaints is somewhat remarkable. The man known as Bush's brain made a reputation of slinging mud at the opposition and waiting for it to stick.

But it should be noted, Rove's complaints with McCain's strategy was not that it had elicited the condemnation of groups like politifact or factcheck.org -- "You can't trust the fact check organization in all respect," he said. "They are human beings and individuals; they have got their own biases in there." Rather, he argued that by exaggerating so wildly, the Republican presidential nominee had opened himself up to political attacks.

"They don't need to attack each other in this way," he said. "They have legitimate points to make about each other."

UPDATE: Sure enough, the Obama campaign weighs in... gleefully.

"In case anyone was still wondering whether John McCain is running the sleaziest, most dishonest campaign in history, today Karl Rove - the man who held the previous record - said McCain's ads have gone too far," said Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor.

If you haven't spent hours on the blog Stuffwhitepeoplelike.com yet, then you should start right now. Here is a taste.

#27 Marathons

In life, there are certain milestones of physical activity that can define you.  A sub 5 second 40 yard dash, a 40 inch vertical leap and so forth.  To a white person, the absolute pinnacle of fitness is to run a marathon.  Not to win, just to run.

White people will train for months, telling everyone who will listen about how they get up early in the morning, they run when it rains, how it makes them feels so great and gives them energy.

When they finish the marathon, they will generally take a photo of themselves in a pair of New Balance sneakers, running shorts, and their marathon number with both hands over their head in triumph (seriously, look it up, this is universal).

They will then set goals like running in the Boston Marathon or the New York Marathon.

If you find yourself in a situation where a white person is talking about a marathon, you must be impressed or you will lose favor with them immediately.  Running for a certain length of time on a specific day is a very important thing to a white person and should not be demeaned.

Also worth nothing, more competitive white people prefer triathlons because Kenyans can’t afford $10,000 specialty bicycles.  If the subject ever comes up, just say that triathletes are in better shape than football and basketball players.  It’s not true, but it will make the conversation a lot more genial.

If you haven't already heard, I'm moving from my E. KC home to a place in Lenexa. There are several factors involved in the decision. My parents, whom I have recently become financial dependent on again, think that is is unwise for me to live here, I have to be at a school that is a 30 minute drive away five days a week, its at least a 15 minute drive from everything else in my life, and the changing dynamics of our house no longer make it a place I enjoy spending all my time at. The biggest reason though, is that I have stopped thinking/feeling that my living here is a benefit to my neighbors. While I certainly think the past 11 months here have helped me develop and shaped my perspectives on a great many things, I wonder if my living here has done anything other than make repeated thieves out of the kids in our neighborhood. Don't get me wrong, I think there can be incredible benefit to the community when committed, well meaning Christians move in and participate in the community's life (the hope center crowd for example), but our house, to this point, has not had that focus. Criticism of my thinking is welcome, but keep in mind that the decision has been made and a new lease in Lenexa has been signed.
